The Art

Some of the pieces from the 1870's are very detailed and took many hours to cut.  The engraving below is from a book entitled Household Elegancies by Mrs. C.S. Jones.  It combines the flat and layered technique into a real tour de force.


The following photo is of a cross hanging in the parlor of the Cobblestone Museum in Gaines, New York.  It is signed and dated on the back of the frame.  Notice how the pattern is all very open; there are almost never two rows of paper left intact together.


This last photo is of a very detailed three-dimensional Victorian House cut and constructed from perforated paper that is in the collection of the Strong Museum in Rochester, New York.
